THE VERGE | Waze has your nostalgic vibes covered with ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s themes | By: Umar Shakir

April 15, 2022 | Waze has added broad nostalgic vibes of the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s to its navigation app. You can now choose new “moods” to look like a groovy lava lamp on the map for other drivers and match yourself with a peace-loving flower power van on your own screen — all while getting directions from a smooth operator ‘70s DJ voice. …

But, if you prefer to live in just the era you’ve experienced or are a stickler for proper end-to-end themes, you could do just that. For the ‘80s, you’ve got an aerobics workout voice (voiced by Janette Johnston) and a “Pumped!” mood that turns you into a retro boombox. You can also choose a convertible called “SUV4EVA” and have a teenybopper pop star take you to your destination and verbally offer you an autograph when you get there.

Each voicer has their own quirky lines when you get to wherever you’re going: the ‘80s aerobics instructor goes, “Let’s work out again tomorrow!” and the ‘70s DJ lays it in deep for you with “I can’t join you from here, but life’s about the journey anyway.” …

NEW YORK POST | “Boogie nights: A disco-inspired roller rink opens at Rock Center today” | By: Hannah Frishberg

April 15, 2022 | Midtown is swapping out its blades for wheels this weekend as the Rockefeller Center ice skating rink temporarily transforms into a roller disco for the first time in 80 years.

The last time you could rollerskate at the iconic Lower Plaza in front of 30 Rock was back in 1940. But this time the vibes are solidly disco.

Beginning today and continuing through Oct., skaters of all skill levels are invited to roll on down to The Rink at Rockefeller Plaza seven days a week, and til midnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Free day lockers are available (bags are not permitted on the rink) and tickets for one-hour skate sessions cost $20 for adults who bring their own skates and $30 who need to rent. (Tickets for children under $15 with skates cost $12 or $22 for those without.)

Theatre Pizzazz | “Our Bar: Theater in a Bar” | Ron Fassler

Whether you are a visitor to New York, or a die-hard resident, almost everyone loves a night on the town that might include stopping in someplace in search of a few laughs. Each of the five boroughs offer comedy nights in clubs seven nights a week, everywhere from local bars to longtime institutions like the Comic Strip or the Comedy Cellar. Drinking and laughing is a well-honored NY tradition, that includes the built-in factor that anything can happen when it’s live. Last night, I caught Season Ten (who knew?) of Our Bar: Theater in a Bar, performed at the Falite Irish Whiskey Bar on Second Avenue in midtown (Kipps Bay). …
