ABOUT JANETTE

Janette Johnston is a New York City-based commercial, voice, and stage actress. Originally from the foothills of East Tennessee, she spent her teenage years performing in high school and community theatre productions, where favorite roles included Zaneeta Shinn in The Music Man, Sally in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, and the title role in Annie.

After graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA), Janette went on to perform in various theatre productions around NYC, with companies such as Reckless Theatre Group, The Amoralists, and Mind The Gap (MTG) Theatre Group.

She originated the leading role of Dorothy Parker in the world premiere of Encore, Encore (written by Colin Crowley and directed by Paula D’Alessandris.) Other favorite roles include Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Kimberly in Stupid Kids, and “Little Passenger” in G Train Exodus - for which she won the Best Actress Award at the LIC One Act Festival. Janette also completed additional training courses at the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) in New York and The Second City in Chicago.

Janette has appeared on-screen in the short films Penguins Can’t Fly, Two Sisters, and Jerome and the Poets, the latter of which won three awards at the 2020 Independent Shorts Awards, including Best Ensemble Cast and Best Dark Comedy. She has worked with numerous brands and networks for her on-camera and voiceover commercial projects.

Janette can currently be found performing with Our Bar (a company that brings all original, site-specific theatre to a Manhattan bar once a month) and enjoys working on the other side of the table as a freelance casting director in voiceover and on-camera commercials. Janette is an active member of the New York City roller skating community and lives in Harlem with her bearded husband, Michael, and rescue cat, Ditmas.
